About
Rahul Matthan is a leading technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) lawyer in India with extensive experience advising on some of the country’s most significant technology and telecom transactions. His expertise spans corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, technology transfers, outsourcing, data protection, intellectual property, private equity investments, and emerging technology regulations. Recognised for his ability to bridge the worlds of law and technology, he has also played an active role in shaping public policy, including serving as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Advisor to India’s Ministry of Finance during the country’s G20 Presidency.

In 2000, he co-founded Trilegal, which has grown into one of India’s leading full-service law firms. He currently leads the firm’s TMT practice and serves on its board.

He is also an accomplished author and public intellectual. His books include The Law Relating to Computers and the Internet, Privacy 3.0: Unlocking Our Data-Driven Future, and The Third Way: India’s Revolutionary Approach to Data Governance. Since 2016, he has written the weekly Ex Machina column and hosts a podcast exploring the intersection of law, technology, and society.
