Thomas Nichols is a Professor of Neuroimaging Statistics, Li Ka Shing Centre for Health Information and Discovery, Big Data Institute, University of Oxford.

Thomas Nichols is a statistician with formal training in cognitive neuroscience and more than two decades of experience in functional neuroimaging. His career spans academia, industry, and clinical research, providing him with a unique interdisciplinary perspective on the development and application of advanced statistical methods for brain imaging.
Over the course of his career, he has held a diverse range of positions, including applications programmer at a PET imaging centre, faculty member in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan, and Director of the pioneering Clinical Imaging Centre at GlaxoSmithKline. He currently serves as faculty in the Departments of Statistics and the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick.

His research specializes in the statistical modelling and analysis of functional neuroimaging data, encompassing functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Electroencephalography (EEG), and Magnetoencephalography (MEG). His expertise also extends to the analysis of structural MRI data, with a focus on developing rigorous statistical approaches for understanding brain structure and function.
