Valentina Escott-Price is a Group Leader & Research Division Lead at the UK DRI at Cardiff. She is interested in using big data, machine learning, and AI to accelerate discoveries into dementia.
Her multidisciplinary expertise encompasses the analysis of genetic and population-level data across a range of neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and related cognitive and dementia-associated phenotypes.
A central focus of her research is the accurate identification of individuals at elevated risk of disease through the integration of polygenic risk scores, biomarkers, and environmental risk factors. While her work is deeply rooted in translational applications, her primary passion remains the development and refinement of statistical methodologies. She continues to advance innovative analytical approaches for the interrogation of large-scale, complex biomedical datasets.
Her current research aims to harness the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve disease risk prediction, patient stratification, and precision medicine approaches within large population cohorts. She is also actively exploring cutting-edge federated and swarm learning frameworks that enable secure, privacy-preserving analyses of distributed health data across institutions and international collaborations.
