Prof. Ramesh Hariharan is Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Strand Life Sciences and an Adjunct Professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). A computer scientist, bioinformatician and entrepreneur, he has been a pioneer in applying computational methods to genomics and translating them into biomedical and clinical applications.

Prof. Hariharan received his B.Tech. from IIT Delhi and PhD from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, followed by postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute. He subsequently spent a decade as faculty at IISc, working in algorithms and theoretical computer science, before co-founding Strand Life Sciences.

At Strand, he leads the development of computational and genomic technologies for diagnostics, biomedical research, and drug discovery. His current work increasingly encompasses AI and machine-learning approaches to genomic data analysis, including the use of large language models for genetic variant interpretation and technologies for more accessible genome-based diagnosis of rare diseases and cancer.
